Kenyan Market Basket
Kenyan Market Basket : Lightweight, Handy and Tough! Basket of many uses: home, shopping, garden or beach.
Called Kikapu in Swahili, these handmade market baskets are woven from beach palm fronds in the village of Matondoni on Lamu Island off the coast of Kenya. Use for shopping, gardening, the beach and more! Both strong and versatile, they fold up for easy storage when not in use. They thrive in salt water, and are strengthened by an occasional dip in the ocean, but should not be left out in the rain as fresh water weakens them. Keep one in the back of the car for carrying groceries, and another in the garden shed for harvest time — or even for hauling weeds and rocks! With good care they will last many years.
