Heavy Metal Panicum Grass

Often referred to as Blue Switch Grass, Heavy Metal is more upright in growth habit than the other Panicums. Its foliage is metallic blue through the summer months but turns to shades of yellow in the fall. In late summer it begins to flower, opening light pink panicles that are carried a foot or so above the foliage. Heavy Metal is a tall grass, reaching as much as 5 or 6 feet, and so is very effective used as a screen or backdrop, or at the back of a sunny border. Medium growth rate.
